G. R. Hastings is a maritime archaeologist who specializes in colonial America and the Golden Age of Piracy. He earned his Master of Science in Maritime Archaeology and Conservation at Texas A&M University and his Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Performing and Media Arts from Cornell University, writing his senior thesis about the Lost Colony of Roanoke. He has written numerous short stories and plays, some of which have seen the stage. One produced work, In the Mind, he directed himself as a one-act in 2019. The Cursèd 500 was selected for Cornell’s 10-Minute Play Fest in 2019. An Undersider Tale won first place in the Jean E. Miller Young Playwright’s Competition at the Dorset Theater Festival in 2015. G. R. Hastings was also a regular contributor to the Cornell Daily Sun, known as the humorous horror film critic. On the Isles of Shoals, he drew in crowds with his tales of Veyman, and he has developed multiple social media series including Trip Tips and Island Walker.
